third Grade

MIRRIAM TONG | chair | RM. 18

This is my 10th year of teaching.  I was a part-time 4th grade teacher at Lehua Elementary for a year.   I also taught 2nd grade for seven years at Ewa Elementary.  I believe that every student can learn, just not on the same day and not in the same way. ~George Evans.   A few activities I like to do in my spare time (if I have any) are taking walks by myself and reading books.

I am in my 21th year of teaching. I earned my B.ED in Elementary Education.  In my spare time I like to go hiking, working out, shopping and eating.  When it comes to teaching I believe that everyone is capable of learning.

I started out as a Para Professional Tutor at Ka'ewai from  to 2009-2012.  I've also  worked with Hickam Elementary, Voyager Public Charter School and as a childcare provider with the Kalihi YMCA from 2010-2013.  I earned my Bachelor's in Education from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and currently serve as our grade level chair.  After school I run a  voluntary (in class) after-school tutoring group.   I believe that every child deserves the opportunity to achieve his or her highest potential in life. It is my responsibility to inspire, motivate, and encourage my students to enjoy and love learning. I am also responsible to prepare the future generation for academic, social, and professional success. On my leisure I like to listen to music, read, hike, eat, & sleep. Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself! -John Dewey
